1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Join us for a lecture about two courageous Nahant men who served on United States tall ships in the Civil War, Andrew Camps and Mortimer Lawrence Johnson. Andrew was the grandson of black slaves, who fought for the British in the American Revolution. They were Black Loyalists. Andrew was a stone mason by trade. Mortimer was a well-educated career Navy man from a prominent white Nahant family. Many of his ancestors were military men. It would seem they had very little in common. Yet, the lives of these two men converged in the 1860s.
