Date & Time
Saturday, September 28, 2024
Time Slot(s):
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Description
In the 1830s poverty and homelessness were an epidemic. Women, children, the infirmed and the elderly often wound up with no choice but to exist on the charity of others. For centuries our local communities have tried to figure out how to care for the poor. They’ve fought over who should take responsibility for the destitute. This program tells the first person narrative of a woman, who, having lost her husband and income, finds no alternative but to go to the poor farm with her young children. Sponsored by the Marblehead Cultural Council.
