Description

Fish weirs have been constructed by the Indigenous Massachusett people since time immemorial. Join members of the Massachusett Tribe to learn the history and participate in the renewal of this tradition in Salem Harbor. On September 19th and 20th Salem School students will be building fish weirs in Salem Harbor. Volunteers are needed both evenings to check the weirs for fish, and dismantle them for the following day. There will be an opportunity to learn informally from Massachusett Tribal Member Thomas Green during the volunteer events.

Special Instructions

Bring boots or kayak shoes if you have them, to walk in mud and shallow water. It can be cooler down by the water, especially in the evening, so dress warmly.

Weather Restrictions

We will cancel the event if there is a storm or heavy rain. Participants will be notified by email.
