Salt Marshes: Where the Living Isn’t Easy

Date & Time

Wednesday, September 18, 2024

Time Slot(s):

2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Our event will follow an agenda, but will be informal, so guests may arrive any time.

Description

A salt marsh may conjure up an image of a lovely sea of grasses, waving in the breeze, or the less lovely rotten-egg smell carried by those same breezes! Both are evidence of life highly adapted to stresses of marshes: tides that flood and drain them, high salinity, cyclical exposure to air at the soil surface. We will show how we measure the stressors in the marsh as well as how plants and microbes thrive there despite the challenging environment.

Special Instructions

You may need bug and sun protection, and shoes that could get a little muddy.

Weather Restrictions

We will cancel for steady rain or storms.
