Description
Ahoy Mates! Salem is LOOKING UP! Why’s that, you might ask? Well, it’s because lampposts lining Essex and Derby Streets in downtown Salem are festooned with over 30 whimsical and creative figureheads.
The “Lady of Salem” figurehead is designed by local artists, school children and community organization members. Each imaginatively embellished figurehead has a unique story to relay. A brochure and QR code tells the curious viewer a little something about Salem’s maritime history during Salem’s Golden Age of Sail (1784-1820).
