Join President of the Essex Base Ball Organization, Brian Sheehy, at historic Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury to learn about the history and evolution of baseball in Essex County. Did you know in the 1860’s base ball (two words in the 19th century) clubs were springing up all over the country? Have you ever heard of the Clionians, Hawkswood, or Ironsides Base Ball Clubs? Come hear how baseball developed into the game it is today! Attend the lecture and stick around to watch a live game! Two games will be played by 1864 rules which include underhand pitching, catching a ball on one bounce for an out, and so much more….
